Day 01
Meet on arrival & transfer to Mount Lavinia Hotel.
Day 02
Leave for Kandy via Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, en route visit Spice Gardens, sightseeing in Kandy.
Check in Earl’s Regency Hotel or similar hotel in Kandy.
Evening, visit Temple of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha & witness a cultural show of traditional dances of Sri Lanka. Return to hotel for dinner & overnight stay.
Day 03
After breakfast sightseeing tour of Kandy the beautiful Hill Capital and the last stronghold of the last kings is located at an elevation of 1620 feet. Proceed to Peradeniya to visit the Royal Botanical Gardens which is 150 acres in extent and contains specimens of flora of the whole tropical world and one of the largest collections of Orchids in the world.
Late in the afternoon sightseeing & shopping in Kandy. Kandy is an exciting place for shopping- silverware, ebony, brass, lacquer works, rush & reed ware & gems. Drive along the upper lake road to have a bird’s eye view of the hill capital. Dinner & overnight stay at Kandy.
Day 04
Leave for Sigiriya, via Matale, climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress. This rock fortress was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. In a sheltered pocket, approached by a spiral stairway, are the famous frescoes. Visit Dambulla Cave Temple. The 1st Century rock temple, a World Heritage site consist of five caves, walls & ceilings covered with 18 Century Buddhist murals, some of its frescoes are over 2000 years old.
Dinner & overnight stay at Heritance Kandalama Hotel or similar hotel in Dambulla.
Day 05
Leave for Anuradhapura, city tour of the 5th Century Capital of Sri Lanka’s “First Ruined City”. Visit Mihintale, Mihintale is known as the cradle of Buddhism where Buddhism was first preached to a king in the 3rd Century BC. Evening, return Dambulla. En route, visit Avukana. Dinner & overnight stay at Dambulla.
Day 06
Leave for Polonnaruwa, city tour at the 11th Century Capital of the Island which is famous for it’s sculpture & irrigation tanks. Visit the famous statues and ruins, ruins of some of the magnificent structures such as the Audience Hall, Council Chamber, and Royal Palace etc. Dinner & overnight stay at Deer Park Hotel or similar Hotel in Polonnaruwa.
Day 07
Early morning leave for Mahiyangane & Dambana & visit the colony of the Veddas’- The “Aborigines” of Sri Lanka. They originally lived in Rock caves and survived off the land and animals they hunted with a bow and arrow which they made themselves. Today the shot gun replaces the bow and arrow. They do not kill young or pregnant animals as a rule. Their catch was roasted BBQ style and the whole family sat around and had their meal. Today civilization is slowly influencing this tribe.
Late evening proceed to Ella, dinner & overnight stay at Ella Adventure Park or similar Hotel in Ella.
Day 08
Leave for Bandarawela, sightseeing in Bandarawela. Evening proceed to Nuwara Eliya, on the way one could see the beautiful water falls & tea estate.
Nuwara Eliya is a serene retreat situated 1890 metres above sea level and is set in the tea country. The British succeeded in creating an English countryside complete with Queen Ann & Georgian architecture, an 18-hole golf course, well-kept lawns with hedges, a lake, track for horse racing, streams abound with rainbow trout & Hakgala Botanical Gardens with a fine collection of roses & ferns.
Dinner & overnight stay at Tea Factory Hotel or similar hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 09
Morning leave for Horton Plains, Sri Lanka’s highest and most isolated plateau. Nature lovers will revel in this wide, patna grass covered plain the haunt of many wild yet harmless animals like endemic Loris & purple monkeys. A precipice known as World’s End, is located here – a sheer drop of 1,050 meters. Dinner & overnight stay at Nuwara Eliya.
Day 10
Morning leave for Tissamaharama via Tanamalwila, checking at Yala Village Hotel at Tissamaharama or Mandara Rosen Hotel at Kataragama.
Afternoon city tour of Kataragama, one of Sri Lanka’s holy places where Hindus and Buddhists visit on religious pilgrimage. Dinner & overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 11
Morning leave on Yala safari by jeep. The terrain is a varied course of flat plains altering with rocky outcrops. The vegetation ranges from open parklands to dense jungle. Water holes, small lakes, lagoons and streams provide water for the animals and birds. The special attraction here is the large numbers of elephants.
Afternoon visit Bundala for bird watching, all species of water birds residence of the country and migrant birds inhabit this park.
Evening sightseeing down south & proceed to Tangalle & dinner & overnight stay at Amanwella Hotel or similar hotel in down south.
Day 12
Morning, leave for Galle. City tour of Galle, visit famous Dutch fort, Galle natural museum and the maritime museum which gives you the history of the people of Galle their handicrafts & lifestyle. Late afternoon, enjoy the beach at leisure in Galle. Later proceed to Koggala and dinner & overnight stay at The Fortress Hotel or similar hotel in Koggala / Galle.
Day 13
Leave for Mount Lavinia, stop over at Hikkaduwa for Glass Bottomed Boat Trip, in the seas in Hikkaduwa are found some of the most exotic coral formation in the world. Visit the Mask Museum at Ambalangoda & visit turtle hatchery in Kosgoda. Proceed to Mount Lavinia & dinner & overnight stay at Mount Lavinia Hotel.
Day 14
Morning, city tour & shopping in Colombo. Leave for Airport for departure flight.
