Day Excursion to Kandy via Pinnawala

Kandy Sri Lanka’s hill capital (115 km from Colombo), stronghold of the last Sinhala king, sanctuary of traditional culture, approx. 488 meters above sea level, is Sri Lanka’s most beautiful town & next to Colombo is the most visited tourist resort. Kandy is set amid tea and spice gardens, mountains lakes and rivers and offers a feast of memorable sight-seeing and exciting experiences.

Starting @ 06.30 am from Hotel Mount Lavinia, have breakfast on the way to Kandy, en-route visit the Elephant orphanage at Pinnawela, to see bathing and feeding of elephants which is well known the world over as the home of Sri Lanka’s first elephant orphanage established in 1975. Later visit a spice garden to see the endemic plants.

After lunch sightseeing tour of Kandy. A visit to the Royal botanical garden in Peradeniya is a must, the royal botanical gardens, began as a pleasure garden by Sinhalese kings in the Kandian kingdom, is 57 hectares in extent and provides amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers, for the edification of the botanist.

Later visit the Dalada Maligawa the Temple of the sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. Visit a Tea Factory to observe the process of blending, manufacture, and packing of Sri Lanka Tea.. After evening tea proceed to Mt’ Lavinia Hotel.
